Why I wrote it
Too many Christians live two separate lives.
Some take faith seriously but treat ordinary work as merely a way to earn an income. Others pursue excellence at work but leave their Christian convictions at the church door. Still others sense that their workplace matters to God, yet feel isolated or lack a practical language for connecting faith and vocation.
I wrote Marketplace Shift for all three. The book began with a conviction that ministry is not reserved for preachers and church programmes. Service offered faithfully to God and neighbour can happen wherever people teach, build, heal, organise, create, trade, govern or care.
You do not have to leave your profession to take your calling seriously.
The central invitation
See your workplace as a place of faithful service.
This is not an invitation to force religious language into every conversation. It is an invitation to bring your whole Christian life to work: competence, integrity, love, courage, excellence, justice, creativity and concern for the people and systems your work affects.
The book asks a larger question than, “How can I succeed?” It asks, “How can the work entrusted to me become worship, service and a contribution to the good of the world?”
