A necessary shift
Work can be worship and service.
Calling is often narrowed to what happens inside a church building. But teachers, nurses, engineers, civil servants and office workers are not the only people shaping the world. Traders, farmers, drivers, mechanics, tailors, hairdressers, craftspeople, market women, entrepreneurs and parents also serve God and neighbour through the work entrusted to them.
The question is not simply whether work gives you income. It is whether your presence, competence, integrity and service help make God’s character visible where you have been placed.
You do not have to leave your profession to take your calling seriously.
